Birthday!
This month was my birthday month and it started early with a gift from my daughter and a homemade carrot cake from Min which was fantastic!
I told Min that I want to experience things rather than be given things so they took me out to Portsmouth Rum Distillery as I’d recently tried the Cinnabar Rum and loved it! We took a tour around the distillery, learnt about the history of Fort Cumberland and the distillery, then taste tested most of the drinks they had. Turns out Cinnabar remains my favourite but the Dark Navy is delicious, and Mutiny (coconut) was divine! I also discovered I do like gin but I like it to be a bit more botanical, Tudor is a fantastic gin!
We also went to my favourite Italian in Portsmouth (or perhaps in the country?) Guiseppe’s and has a fantastic meal and were made to feel very welcome there. I do love the place. Followed by watching the sun set. It was a great couple of days day!
Slowing Down…
Life is all about speeding things up, being more efficient, lazy. When I first bought my turntable I loved the ritual of it, you were thoughtful about what you put on, you listened to what was playing, it was much more meaningful than pressing a button and skipping through tracks or albums in an instant. This month I’ve adopted more of that into my life by taking a step away from the coffee machine and using my Bialetti on the induction hob which has forced me to slow down my morning routine and be more in the present. In doing this I have lowered my caffeine intake which is a good thing in itself, but also I’m finding more time to be productive and thoughtful of what I’m doing in the morning, often having myself ready earlier than I would normally.
Part of this has been inspired by the 13 Moon Journal I bought for 2027 where I plan to try and do the year by the moon cycles rather than the Gregorian Calendar, I feel getting more in tune with the world around me is important and I have been neglecting the Sabbats this year.
Music…
Marina and the Diamonds - Froot: A vinyl gift from my daughter for my birthday. I adore Marina and this album is an eclectic mix of upbeat joy.
I did end up falling down a hole and rediscovering some old bands I used to adore back when I was about 15; Within Temptation and Nightwish. As a result of this I ended up finding one of the Within Temptation albums that I listened to on CD but on Vinyl second hand - Mother Earth. It made me so nostalgic and gave me a lot of happy feels listening to it like this. Two Madonna albums (Madonna and Like A Virgin) may have fallen into that basket too…
Formula 1…
Bahrain at Sepang, Malaysia - GP was delayed due to heavy rain, but it turned out to be a fantastic race with an anything could happen feeling to it. I really felt for George at the end who was doing so well until his car went poof. Hamilton did amazing, I’m not usually a fan of his but he drove really well this race. This race I watched Kimi on my phone while watching the main race on the big TV, it was great getting the radio between Kimi and Bono.
Singapore - A Sprint weekend which I’m not overly fond of and the Sprint itself turned into absolute chaos which did have me wondering if there would be anything of interest happening in the GP - It was a very boring race, not Madring boring but there wasn’t a great deal that happened. It was great to see LeClerc get on the podium and always nice to see Kimi there, Max obliterated everyone though. Hamilton made a bad choice and shows that there’s no trust between Hamilton and his engineer.
Austin, America - A great race weekend where Antonelli took off, it’s a shame that he didn’t win the championship on this one, but saving it for Mexico does mean he can actually drink and celebrate! Cracking driving from a lot of the drivers in the race and the podium 3 were well deserved!
