Cinnabar Spiced Rum is based off of Portsmouth Distillery’s own 1986 Unaged Rum, spiced with cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, coriander, nutmeg, Szechuan pepper, and orange feel. Thoughts & Tasting…

So it’s not quite September but I took this bottle with me on a trip and it didn’t last the trip - oops? Also, my Rum Club, so my rules and my new rules are at least one bottle a month…!

Cinnabar from the Portsmouth Distillery comes in a very hefty bottle and gives it the sort of feeling that it would do well on an old ship out at sea, being rocked back and forth by the waves. It’s a good sized bottle and easy to hold and pour, which is obviously an important factor!

The initial smell from the Cinnabar Rum gives this honey like scent that feels warm and inviting, it gave me that feeling of coming home to comfort.

The taste itself was complex! There was a lot of citrus to it which was delicious, I also felt some tones of honey to it. Min felt it was more of a sweet and salty whisky than it was a rum with lots of caramel tones to it. We both agreed that the rum was a lot like a sweet and salty old fashioned made with bourbon, which was an interesting feeling and did mess with our mind a bit, in a good way.

I did not take a lot of photos of this rum as I enjoyed drinking it too much and by the end of our trip it was all gone. This has been my favourite rum so far and I am now very keen to try all of the rum that Portsmouth Distillery have to offer!
