Contents and Box Cost vs Individual Cost…

My Unboxing Video

Initially this was a great box to open with a lot of fresh goodies inside, some fantastic treats, and I liked that it was autumnal/halloween themed.

It did however strike me that Seven Ate Nine, King Soba, Tenuta Marmorelle and Carolyn’s Krisps were in the box for the second month in a row, as well as Wheat Free Bakery, but the latter I feel are a staple to GF Yourself. Hopefully next month will offer some variety beyond the first four.

Additionally when pricing things up I noticed that this is the first box I’ve ever had that was actually under the value of the box and delivery cost, and frankly I feel Carolyn’s Krisps are overpriced based on the ones I had last month.

Individual Reviews…

(Disclaimer: This is based on my taste palate and my opinions.)

Cost: £2.85 for 4

These were really yummy with a good amount of crunch to the biscuit without being too crumbly or dry. The filling was lacking and I didn’t really taste much to it, but that was fine as the biscuit itself had some sweetness to it.

I’d buy these again and found the price to be fair for what you got.

Cost: £1.63 // £3.25 for two

A lovely fluffy consistency throughout mixed with a great mouthfeel when getting some of the tomato inside. The garlic wasn’t overpowering and added to the flavour of the whole thing.

I find the price for these extremely fairy and would definitely be up for having more in the future.

Cost: £1.50 // £2.99 for two

I was very excited by these unfortunately they were extremely dry which didn’t make it an enjoyable experience. I do feel that they would work well with some bacon so the juice can be absorbed and potentially make the bread itself feel better in the mouth.

I feel the price was a little over what I would have liked to have paid for a baguette of this size, however with how dry the bread I don’t see me buying thee in the future.

Cost: £3.50

Another product from Seven Ate Nine which was unfortunately not in the best of shapes as the entire thing was stuck together then broken in half so it made eating it quite annoying.

What I did eat I wasn’t best impressed by as it was purely a sesame flavour with no hints of apple or cinnamon to it.

At £3.50 they are very overpriced, even if it hadn’t come as one big clump, it’s far too expensive for my taste.

Cost: £3.75

Very thin and small, also quite delicate and many had been broken on delivery.

They tasted extremely bland and didn’t give me much of a digestive feel in my mouth, more like a wafer consistency.

There are much cheaper and better alternatives out there so I would not spend £3.75 on these.

Cost: £8.22 (converted from 10.99 USD)

Another Carolyn’s Krisps product from GF Yourself and once more I found them to be quite lacking in anything.

These were meant to be a cheese flavour and they did every now and again offer up this odd sort of cheese flavour to them.

Additionally there was about two portions in the pack which at the price point seemed extreme!

If these were available in the UK I wouldn’t buy them because they don’t taste great, and they cost an absolute fortune!

Cost: £3.89

These are very light and crunchy but don’t really have a lot of flavour going on with them. However as a base for more they work quite nicely.

However I can’t justify the price, there are more affordable flatbreads out there that offer some flavour.

Cost: £3.95

As expected from Tenuta Marmorelle these were easy to cook, had that ‘meaty’ sort of consistency, and a lovely flavour to them.

I added these to a tomato and dill sauce with some diced chicken which made for a lovely combination (photo at the bottom) and added a little more substance to the meal.

Although these are fantastic I do much prefer full sized pasta as I do feel the small size of these takes away their presence.

At £3.95 they are a more affordable price point, although you do need to use more than normal - if the regular pasta packs were £3.95 then I would switch to just using Tenuta Marmorelle.

Cost: £3.49

So firstly - the colour! These look amazing and are perfect for the halloween season! I really enjoyed these for that.

How they look aside, they are also really nice and make for a very quick and easy food. I added miso soup into mine shortly after the picture and had it for lunch which was simple but filling.

Good fun noodles and I’d likely get more of these to put in storage. I feel the price point is justified and fairly decent value.

Vida Bakery - Pumpkin Spiced Cookie Dough

Cost: £5.50 (estimated based on their other doughs)

These were very easy to bake off and I can see the convenience of having pre-prepared cookie dough ready to go. However I do feel that if you know how to make your own then these are more of a luxury.

The cookie itself was lovely, a good amount of spice to it which made them delicious. They were also light and soft with a very fluffy crumbly interior. They reminded me a lot of lebkuchen.

Min noted that they didn’t have the chewiness of a fresh cookie and they were a bit dry.

As said I feel they are a luxury and the price is in the luxury range. I do feel I could make these for significantly less and with more flavour to them. I may get more dough in the future if I’m feeling lazy but… I doubt it.

Final Opinions…

As usual GF Yourself have supplied some lovely fresh baked goods which I really enjoyed and if the delivery cost wasn’t so high from Wheat Free Bakery I would likely make bi-weekly orders from for the odd treat or loaf.

I really enjoyed baking the cookies, I feel they were very overpriced for what you got, although they have inspired me to look into some gluten/dairy free lebkuchen’s for the winter season.

On a whole though there wasn’t anything that really wowed me and I feel the prices of the individual products in this box were highly inflated which is bringing me to the realisation that a lot of products in the world of gluten and dairy free are way overpriced.
