Contents and Box Cost vs Individual Cost…

This is my first box from GF Yourself and I was very pleasantly surprised to find that there were freshly baked goods in the box. I’ve had the Tenuta Marmorelle Maccarun Rigate Pasta in the past and loved it so I’m very happy to have that included, as for the rest of what’s in the box I’ve never tried them before!

Carolyn’s Krisps seem to be a product that you can only get in the US, so I’ve converted that into GBP, hopefully I don’t like them too much as I imagine they’ll be a pain to get imported over here! Additionally The Good Crisp Company seem to be a US company too however you can now buy their products at Waitrose as far as I can tell.

For the first time I did a video unboxing and uploaded to YouTube, it was my first time doing something like this and my first time using video editing software, but it was a great box to open for my first!

Individual Reviews…

(Disclaimer: This is based on my taste palet and my opinions / I’ve added Amazon links if cheaper than the official store.)

I initially tried these toasted for breakfast and found them to be really nice. The onion flavour is light and doesn’t overwhelm you, which I often find with onion based products. It was crisp (obviously from the toasting) but light and chewy on the inside, it was also not too heavy or ‘stodgy’ like some bread is.

I also tried it in the same way but with honey drizzled over it, this was delicious. The same texture and mouth feel but the combination of mild onion and sweet honey made for a great contrast and start to the day.

As far as soft white rolls go these were very soft, light, and fluffy, they were very good and went well with a combination of ham, cheese, and tomato. In the past I’ve found the juices from tomato can deconstruct a lot of the roll and make it soggy, but these rolls held up well.

Unfortunately as the thing that excited me the most in this box, I was disappointed by the product. There wasn’t a lot of apple flavour to these, the pastry was rather bland, hard, and very dry. It’s a shame as it looked like it would have been really nice.

I wasn’t keen on these as they were extremely hard and the flavour was relatively plain. There was a mixture of seeded flavours here and there but it was quite inconsistent, and with the hardness of the biscuit it wasn’t a pleasant experience.

Shockingly expensive for what you get combined with the quality, so will not be something I get in the future.

I followed the recipe on the back of this and cooked off some rice to soak up the juices and I have to unfortunately say that it feels like a massive waste of money.

So usually if I’m going to slow cook something like this I would make the sauce myself with fresh herbs, a splash of wine, and some stock at a fraction of the price. Additionally to that the sauce would actually taste of something, this didn’t taste of anything.

I feel this is a good case of throwing on a “gluten free” tag to something that is gluten free anyway, then increasing the price tenfold.

A bit of a cheat here as I had these in my Delishly June Box which you can read about clicking the link.

This pack will remain sealed and to be used on a treat pasta dish as I know how amazing these are already!

I wasn’t sure about these but they were rather pleasant to eat, especially if you’re a fan of toasted sesame which was predominantly the flavour that you got. Unfortunately the honey flavour wasn’t there, I guess it was more a case of using the honey to bond than add some sweetness.

I’d buy again if they were £2 a pack, but at nearly £10 - hard pass.

I’ve had a few of these instant noodles in a pot and found them to be a quick and easy hot lunch, but I’d never tried a King Soba one. It followed the same principles as any other; add hot water and wait around a while. Simple and quick to make.

Unfortunately I found this to lack any flavour at all, I was expecting a bit of a kick from the ginger but found it to be really bland, it may well have been noodles in water. At £2.29 I was very disappointed and won’t be adding this to my cupboard in the future.

These smelt amazing and were lovely in the mouth, they were crispy and crumbly, filled with so much texture with each bite and had a biscuity flavour to them. No maple or pecan that I could taste, but they were an experience.

Unfortunately these aren’t being sold in the UK but should they start being sold I’d be curious to try more of the range - hopefully at a much cheaper price!

Do you remember eating Pringles before finding out gluten was a no-no? Well this is them, however, they actually taste a lot better than them! They are lighter, crispier, and they don’t feel so oily on the skin.

These were a US brand but have recently started being sold in the UK at Waitrose.

For what they are they are a tad expensive but I would consider them if I was walking down an aisle and saw them.

Final Opinions…

A lovely first box from GF Yourself with the additional freshly baked goods being a very nice surprise (I didn’t read the subscription details very well!) as well as some treats from further afield.

There was only one product that I’d had before and it’s a fantastic product so I’m very happy with that and will be saving it for a special meal in the future.

My favourites were probably the bagels and the rolls followed by Carolyn’s Krisps. I don’t think I’d buy anything from this selection other than the products from the Wheat Free Bakery, but that would be a bulk order as the delivery fee is quite steep.
