Type: Pancake Bar

Theme: Dutch

Gluten Free Options: Yes

Originally established in 1958 My Old Dutch offers a selection of pancakes as their staple, but have added starters, waffles, salads, and additional sweets and savouries based on the Dutch quisine. Each selection that is on offer is often very heavily customisable so you can always adjust the menu to something you would prefer.

You can find a My Old Dutch in Holborn and Chelsea, however I’ve never been to the Chelsea one.

Venue…

The venue itself is very open plan but you don’t feel like you’re squashed up against the nearby tables. It’s a very welcoming atmosphere with all sorts of references to pancakes and waffles decorating the room, which makes you feel quite cheerful and offers you a huge amount of eye candy if you’re the sort of person that enjoys to look around.

Staff…

I cannot fault the staff here in any shape or form, they’ve always been very attentive, listened to my needs when it comes to my intolerences, and also made my daughter feel very welcome and comfortable despite her social anxiety.

Food & Drink…

The food has always been fantastic, however, if you’ve been to somewhere like Amsterdam and been to one of those pancake houses then don’t expect that, although they say it’s a dutch pancake place it’s not the same quality as I had out there. A big however to that is, it’s considerably cheaper than flying out there and getting a pancake than it is if you’re already in and about London. Compared to the sorts of pancakes we normally have around the country these are lovely and can be gluten and dairy free which is a huge boon!

I always lean into the savoury options there unlike my daughter who always leans into the sweet. So far I’ve not had any issues with cross contamination, I haven’t had a reaction from any of the food I’ve eaten there, and my daughter has always been very happy with what they’ve had. She is especially keen on the milkshakes they do there too, I tend to just stick with the water.

Overall…

My Old Dutch is a firm favourite for our trips up to London as it offers a great selection that my daughter will eat and a fantastic list of options for my dietary requirements, it’s also conveniently on the walk home from Great Ormond Street Hospital to Waterloo Station. Additionally there is always a promotion on which makes it affordable dining!
