Brown Bag Crisps

I discovered Brown Bag Crisps via the June Delishly box where they supplied the Oak Smoked Chilli which was really nice and prompted me to buy a variety box, and they were all really nice. This has then prompted me to buy one of every flavour, now they don’t sell their crisps individually so that resulted in me buying 4 boxes containing 75 packs, but I felt confident in the product.
You can buy Brown Bag Crisps in boxes of twenty of a single flavour, or you can buy mixed cases of twenty which are “Favourite Flavours”, “Character Flavours”, “Vegetarian” and “Best Sellers”
I also have a dairy intolerence so for some of these crisps I did take half a Lactojoy Pill so I didn’t get any negative effects from the crisps - I highly recommend these if you have any dairy intolerence, I touch wood, haven’t had any issues with the odd dairy since using them.
Nerding Out…
An individual 40g pack of Brown Bag Crisps costs 83p which is £0.0207 per gram.
A pack from a box of 20 Brown Bag Crisps at 25% off costs 62p which is £0.0154 per gram.
A 6 pack of Walker’s Ready Salted from Sainsbury’s costs £0.37 a pack which is £0.0146 per gram.
So, an equivalent pack of Brown Bag Crisps to Walker’s in weight only costs 2p extra for a far superior crunch and flavour!
Individual Reviews…
(Disclaimer: This is based on my taste palet and my opinions.)
Lightly Salted
Gluten Free | Dairy Free
A fantastic flavour which did surprise me as I usually find lightly salted crisps to be very heavily salted or having no salt at all; these had just enough to pick out the salt flavour without being overpowering. You could taste more of the crisp itself with a hint of salt, which I really enjoyed tasting a Brown Bag Crisp at it’s base level.
Cheddar & Onion
Gluten Free | Contains Dairy
Well this is a crisp for those who love the mild cheese flavour with a strong onion addition. Very nice crisps if that’s your cup of tea, but unfortunately it’s a little too much onion for me.
Sea Salt & Malt
Gluten Free | Contains Dairy
This was a shock to the taste buds but in a very good way! The combination of salt and vinegar worked really well and the vinegar was alarmingly strong, however it didn’t take away any of the flavour, in fact it made it a bloody lovely taste. This is one of my top crisps!
Beef & Onion
Gluten Free | Dairy Free
You know that flavour when you have a roast beef or go to a carvery? Brown Bag Crisps have nailed that flavour, it was like having a roast in your mouth without it being an overpowering flavour. Combined with the crunch of each crisp these were a delight to eat and are one of my favourite of the flavours (which is great as I bought a box of 20!)
Oak Smoked Chilli
Gluten Free | Dairy Free
“Fantastic crisps and full of flavour, however the chilli flavour in it was a bit too overwhelming and didn’t allow for much else. It reminded me very much of eating an Indian curry which was very nice, however after the entire pack it left my mouth feeling a little overwhelmed”
Taken from my June Delishly Review which was my introduction to Brown Bag Crisps.
Smoked Bacon
Gluten Free | Contains Dairy
It’s been a while since I had a smoked bacon or equivalent crisp, these nailed the flavour. They weren’t a strongly smoked bacon flavour but a very lightly smoked flavour with a hint of a hint of bacon. As usual the crisps themselves were full of crunch and felt nice and chunky.
A great pack, not a favourite, but I wouldn’t say no if offered to me.
Rosemary & Sea Salt
Gluten Free | Dairy Free
A delightful flavour with the strong sea salt taste to it slightly countered by the rosemary which is present in flavour but also not overwhelming. The combination of rosemary and sea salt work really well together and make this one of my top flavours of Brown Bag Crisps.
Tiger Prawn with Chilli & Lime
Gluten Free | Contains Dairy
I used to really enjoyed a Walker’s Prawn Cocktail crisp, however I found the flavour to become increasingly chemical like which I really didn’t enjoy. These on the other hand are a subtle seafood crisp with, as said on the pack, a hint of chilli and lime. It’s a gradual burn that increases the more you eat. Min desribed it as “It’s like eating an asian prawn dish” which I agree with! Very lovely, but be warned, the chilli creeps up on you as you get through the pack!
Beetroot, Carrot & Parsnip
Gluten Free | Dairy Free
Each individual crisp is packed with the flavour of the vegetable it’s made from and it’s really nice. The crisps are super crunchy and have some fantastic mouthfeel to them.
However I did find by the end of the pack the flavour was a bit too much. I would probably use these as crisps to put in a bowl and share with friends rather than munch on my own.
Final Opinions…
My order of favourites are; Beef & Onion, Sea Salt & Vinegar, Rosemary & Sea Salt, Lightly Salted, Tiger Prawn, Smoked Bacon, Oak Smoked Chilli, Cheese & Onion, and Beetroot, Carrot & Parsnip.
I really enjoyed trying the variety of flavours that Brown Bag Crisps offer and found the quality of each crisp to be great compared to other brands of crisps out there, I also had no reactions to any of the crisps I ate which was very refreshing - it’s amazing how many crisps aren’t gluten free! Going forward I will be buying these crisps as my day-to-day selection as the quality if far better than anything else I’ve had and the flavours are exactly what they say they’ll be without any chemical feel to them.
