First Impressions…

Lovely looking bottle and I love the wax sealing over the top giving it a very premium visual. However being unable to see into the bottle is something that does irk me a bit, I like to see just how much is in there… well how much is left before I need to order a new bottle of something, minor thing though.

The Tasting…

Neat

I found this to have a very strong vanilla and citrus smell to it, which followed through in the flavour with an overpowering citrus, it felt like I’d bitten into an orange segment that had alcohol injected in it. It really didn’t feel like a rum to me. Meanwhile Min felt like it had a fudge smell and a very strong orange flavour with some vanilla, to quote them, “Tastes like orange clotted cream fudge, if I ever had it” saying it tasted more like flavoured liquor.

Rum & Coca Cola (full fat)

Obviously the first choice for a mix. I strangely found a peppery hit with coke in, which surprised me, followed by strong vanilla/caramel hit after. Min on the other hand found a slight toffee flavour to it and found it overly sweet.

Rum & Dr. Pepper

Weirdly I found this completely dulled most flavours in the drink, it basically tasted like a Dr. Pepper with a very slight toffee after taste. Min found much the same and I quote “Tastes of artificial sweeteners, rum, and Dr. Pepper, with toffee notes”

Dark & Stormy

Min found this to be a refreshing summery drink. I found it had a nice twang to it with the fizz, and the ginger flavour dulled the overwhelming citrus flavour making it a very enjoyable drink.

Overall…

It’s the first of the rums from The Rum Club and it’s definitely something I wouldn’t have picked up myself, so it offered a great new experience. It’s a little too fruity and sweet for my liking, I’m more dark and spicy than light and fruity. It’s an interesting drink that I feel is a fairly decent mixer with ginger beer, however, it’s unfortunately not a drink I would buy.

This said, it’s not a bad drink, it’s just not to my taste. If you’re interested in a sweet citrus rum then I would recommend this… and I will be finishing this bottle off rather than keeping it in the cupboard and pushing it on friends.
