First Impressions…
The moment I took this out of the box I felt like this was a special bottle of rum, they’d put a lot of attention into the presentation of the bottle, from the wax sealing to the highly detailed label, and a wax press on the top of the bottle. On the back of the label you can find a little write up (a poem I think?) about the drink which I thought was a nice touch.
The presentation of the bottle and look of the drink was inviting, welcoming, but I remembered to take a photo of the sealed bottle this time before I started drinking.
The Tasting
I removed the lid of this bottle and was instantly in love, the smell was fantastic; a rich fruity scent that was very intense and reminded me a lot of christmas pudding.
The taste itself was fantastic. It was rich and sweet but not that sickly sweet you can get with some drinks. The taste of alcohol was present but a subtle taste drowned out by raisins and a slight hint of citrus which was very welcome - my partner summed it up as “an very alcoholic christmas pudding as a drink” and I have to agree.
Drinking neat it had a very slight heat after the flavours had hit you, very akin to drinking a good whisky, however it was smooth, not a harsh heat. Additionally we both noted that there was a very slight aniseed flavour to it once the complexity of the drink had eased.
I did try a Dark and Stormy with this using a Karma Gingerella which was an experience. The ginger really hits home in this drink and removes all flavours of any fruit in the drink as well as that slight heat, however it does become a little more sweeter.
Additionally I tried it with a Karma Cola, however this tasted just like drinking a Karma Cola and nothing more. I do feel the Karma drinks are perhaps not the best for mixing.
Overall…
This drink is an absolute treat to drink and for the price it’s a fantastic rum which I will buy again in the future, additionally I am keen to try their Pineapple, Coffee and Cacao, and Hot Honey rums in the future, they did have a limited edition Laphoaig cask unfortunately that’s all sold out - I do love a Laphroaig!
This is £36.99 on their website however there is a delivery fee unless you spend £100, however this can be bought for £38.00 on Amazon without the delivery fee, which is where I bought my bottle from.
On a whole, it’s one of my favourite rums to drink neat right now and I shall enjoy drinking it through the rest of this month!
