First Impressions…
It’s a mouthful of a name “Dark Caramel and Cornish Sea Salt” it sounds fancy I guess, but it’s basically salted caramel.
The bottle is the iconic Kraken bottle which I really like as the handles make it very easy to pour. The label is in keeping with all their labels, but this particular one has some lovely visuals going on with the tentacles in the caramel like sea.
On a whole the visual look of the bottle is appealing mostly due to the label which when I compare it to last months Roast Coffee Kraken, it does grab my attention more.
The Tasting
The scent of this drink is sweet (which is a theme throughout this drink) giving wafts of toffee mixed with the iconic kraken rum scent. It’s a very inviting drink and tastes a lot like it smells; rich caramel.
It’s very sweet with a huge kick of caramel that is full of richness and gives a very pleasant mouthfeel. However the sweetness of the caramel is too intense and by the end of a double it starts to become a bit sickly rather than pleasant.
Visually the rum looks like any other Kraken drink I’ve had; it’s dark and gives off a sort of amber sheen to it in the light.
Overall…
I have tried this with Karma Cola and Karma Gingerella which are both pleasant, however mixing this drink does make it taste very sweet, too sweet in my opinion. This is a drink that is best served neat and not really a mixing rum, unless you really like a sweet drink.
Honestly, I don’t think it’ll be a drink I buy again, the sweetness is just a bit too much for me and I don’t pick up any of the salt. It’s a great drink but it’s a one off drink unless you’re a fan of multiple sweet drinks.
