girli - It’s Just My Opinion Album Launch
I’ve enjoyed girli for quite some time now, originally finding the artist while searching for LGBTQ+ songs on Spotify and stumbling upon Dysmorphia followed by Hot Mess, songs which still today are two of my favourite songs. I noticed in her socials that she was releasing a new album It’s Just My Opinion and enjoyed the singles from the album - also - if you pre-ordered her album from Pie & Vinyl you could collect from her, watch a mini-show, and do a live signing so I ordered.
I went down to Pie & Vinyl stupidly early as I wanted to have a little walk around and play with my camera, but still ended up waiting outside over an hour before open time - poor time management on my part. However as a result of this I got to see the band arrive. Girli stepped out of the vehicle, I gave her a little wave then got one back, she asked if I was there for the thing, I said yes, then went stupidly shy and squirmy on the inside. I watched as they fussed a dog, Chewie, that was roaming back and forth between a couple of shops, it was lovely to watch. I then saw her and her guitarist (I think called Kit?) walking down Castle Road hand in hand which gave me a very happy feeling, they looked cute.
Pie & Vinyl is a place I enjoy visiting and I was curious how they were going to go around fitting us all in there. They cleared out the cafe area and set girli up in the front window with a big screen behind her, then we all moved in collecting our album as we entered and set ourselves up. Most stood, some sat on the floor directly in front of Girli. It gave me some memories of when I watched Amanda Palmer at the 100 club, very casual, but on a much smaller scale, which I felt made it feel extremely intimate.
She performed three songs, I can’t recall what they all were but she told us the meaning behind them which really made the songs deeper. I loved it. Then she had us sing along with her to “girlioke” which was so much fun! I don’t sing, I’m mortally embarressed about doing it in public, but I sang and I laughed, I enjoyed it all.
After all of this we went back outside and formed a line to have our records (and anything else) signed, I’d brought along my two other albums so had all three of my albums signed by her. I felt really happy and so overwhelmed by the community there, even though I’m a socially awkward butterfly.
Girli is trying to make it in to the Top 40 and is oh so close, if you fancy a listen then I recommend her music, I love what she stands for and the music she creates. If you fancy helping her get into the Top 40 then you can buy her album on itunes https://music.apple.com/gb/album/its-just-my-opinion/1865440929 at £5.99 or take a look at her official store for some of her merch https://girlimusic.com/collections/music?page=1
