If I were to buy all the individual items from their official stores (or alternatives if their website didn’t sell them) it came to a total of £32.21 without delivery costs or the fact you have to bulk buy some of the products in this months box. Taking the delivery cost out of Delishly brings it to £30, so already it’s good value for money, but delivery costs of the individual stores would have put it well over the £34.99 I paid Delishly.
In a nutshell - great value for money and offers a variety of products I would probably have never tried before.
Individual Reviews…
(Disclaimer: This is based on my taste palet and my opinions / I’ve added Amazon links if cheaper than the official store.)
Booja-Booja Chocolate Wonders: Hazelnut
Official Store £2.99
Amazon £2.88
A chocolate and hazelnut ganache rolled in dark chocolate this is a bitesize delight that melts in your mouth. It reminds me a lot of the chocolate ganache balls I’ve had in the past, only with these ones there’s no bloating or bad feelings that follow!
They come in a sealed package which once opened has a top that is very easy to re-seal so all your little delights stay in the freshest of form to be devoured!
These little treats have put Booja-Booja well on my radar and it seems they have quite a large selection of treats, which I will definitely be sampling in the future!
At £2.88 a pack on Amazon these are well worth the buy, and even at £2.99 they are a good buy.
freee Banana & Chocolate Oat Bar
Official Store £0.64 per bar (Pack of 18)
Lovely soft consistency, however it has a bit of a strange taste to it, almost peppery like which did throw me off quite a bit. I couldn’t taste any banana in it and the chocolate tasted more like chocolate powder than chocolate drops.
At 64p a bar from Freee directly they are affordable, they don’t really give me a feeling like I’ve eaten something, or had a treat, so even though they are cheap I’m not really a fan of them.
Belvoir Farm Raspberry Lemonade
Amazon £1.15 per can (Pack of 24)
This came out a lovely shade of pink and instantly made me think of the summer. It was a no-fizz lemonade which was fantastic during the heat wave we had as it really made me tap into those summertime garden drinkies feel.
Flavour-wise the drink was subtle in the raspberry, but the flavour was there and worked really well with the lemonade, it was a very light drink and really enjoyable on a whole.
£1.15 a can is a bit steep for me though, so I doubt I’ll be buying this again in the future, however if it’s on offer I wouldn’t say no to it!
Creative Nature Bursting Berry Blend
Official Store £0.99 per bar (Pack of 20)
A large packet for such a small bar, I was left feeling rather disappointed by this.
The bar itself is very soft and chewy, it has a very subtle berry flavour to it that isn’t too tarte like other berry flavoured bars I’ve eaten. However the bar itself didn’t leave me feeling like I’d actually eaten something, it had a very hollow feeling to it.
At around £1 a bar I feel it’s very expensive for what you get and I wouldn’t buy this in future.
Rhythm 108 Salted Caramel Biscuits
Official Store £2.90 per pack (pack of 8)
So the problem with these is… they are so damned delicious and there isn’t enough in the pack!
These have such a lovely crunch to them, so full of flavour, and such a delightful mouth feel. I’d never tried any Rhythm 108 products in the past but I am very keen to try more of their products now, and will be trying more!
I would like to see a sealable top to the pack, but a clip saw us through, and they didn’t last that long anyway. Highly, highly recommend these.
Free From Fellows Wine Gums
Amazon £2.60 per pack (pack of 5)
These were not the most impressive of treats as firstly they stuck to your teeth and felt very gummy, which wasn’t a nice feeling and took a lot of poking to get rid of all of the gum. Secondly, the flavour was extremely inconsistent, some tasted like nothing while others had a really strong flavour to them.
At £2.60 a pack I expected a lot more from them, you can get wine gum like equivalents for a lot less.
Brown Bag Crisps Oak Smoked Chilli
Official Store £0.83 per pack (pack of 20)
Fantastic crisps and full of flavour, however the chilli flavour in it was a bit too overwhelming and didn’t allow for much else. It reminded me very much of eating an Indian curry which was very nice, however after the entire pack it left my mouth feeling a little overwhelmed
I enjoyed these and have already bought a variety box of their products to try some additional flavours, my partner has already started on them as they prefer them to our regular crisps! Expect a flavour review later down the line!
Creative Nature Light & Crunchy Salt & Vinegar
Official Store £1.25 per pack (pack of 8)
These are fantastic! They are a good size pack, not too big and not too small, plenty in the pack and not a lot of air. They are ideal for throwing in your bag on a day trip.
The the salt and vinegar flavour are so subtle but present and really adds to each square. They remind me a lot of (I think they were) Walker’s Squares, however this have much more crunch to them and have this kind of wheaty flavour, without containing wheat.
These are a strong contender for me, however, at £1.25 a pack it really feels a bit too much when there are other cheaper products out there that offer the same sort of quality. A once in a blue moon treat, yes; a day to day pack, no.
Definitely recommend giving these a try though.
Sun & Seed Focaccia Italian Flatbread Mix, Tomato & Oregano
Official Store £4.70 a pack
This was extremely easy to put together. I poured the dry mix into a bowl, set the kettle to 40*C and poured 300ml of water in, added some extra virgin oil, a bit of salt, mixed it all together and poured it in a baking tray. I then left it for an hour with a tea towel over it, before returning and popping it in the oven for 35 minutes.
Unfortunately I never got around to sampling this as it turned out uncooked on the inside while hard on the outside. I do believe the cooking instructions are incorrect though as it says to cook at 240C Fan Assisted or 230C No Fan for 25-35 minutes, while it also says to cook it for 240C Fan or 230C No Fan for 35-45 minutes. I tried 230 No Fan for 35 minutes and it didn’t come out cooked, so I let it bake for another 10 minutes. I cut it open to find the inside still in a dough like state.
First thing, normally I cook 20C higher than my fan and not 10C lower than the fan temp when I cook without the fan. Secondly, when I normally cook breaded goods I usually do 200C Fan for about 45 minutes, so I do believe there is an error here.
At some point I will buy this again as I do want to try it, but at a later date. This is not a Delishly problem but an issue with Sun & Seed.
Tenuta Marmorelle Gluten Free Maccarun Rigate Pasta
Official Store £5.85 a pack
I really enjoy pasta, you can do so much with it, so having to go gluten free and losing pasta was a big hit. I’ve tried the usual supermarket pasta which have worked but the Tenuta Marmorelle pasta is an entirely different pasta!
The first thing is that when you cook these they don’t start falling apart and breaking up, they retain their shape entirely. The first bite is amazing, these are soft and chewy, it’s almost like biting into a steak. Further there is a nice flavour to them which goes extremely well with a tomato sauce. I had these with meatballs and a tomato sauce but I’d be happy to eat them with a sauce and no protein.
However. They are really expensive compared to the supermarkets which cost about 75p for 500g while these are £5.85 for 500g. Would I buy them again? Yes, but as a one off treat of a meal, they don’t replace a day to day pasta as the price is unfortunately too steep.
Tenuta Marmorelle are on my radar now though and I would like to try some of their other products in the future.
Crazy Bastard Sauce, Chipotle & Pineapple
Official Store £6.99
I’m not a big fan of hot sauces so I was quite reluctant to actually try this, however it was an experience. It wasn’t an overwhelming “OMG my mouth is burning!” but more of a gentle tingling heat, perhaps eased by the pineapple, although I didn’t taste any of that. There wasn’t a huge amount of flavour, but that could potentially be because all I was focusing on was the heat.
I initially tried this as is which was quite hot on the tongue and not that great, however I dipped my chips into it later with my meal and that was a pleasant heat.
I won’t be buying this again, as I said I’m not a fan of hot sauces so it has no real appeal to me, however it was an experience I’m glad I had.
Final Opinions…
Delishly June box was well worth the purchase and added some fantastic products to my cupboards letting me experience and explore more in the world of gluten and dairy free. Since having to limit my gluten and dairy intake I’ve been knocking one thing after another from my regular choices which has been rather depressing, however this box is financially viable, and has started adding new choices to my list already!
Although not everything was to my taste (and there was an issue with one of the products), everything was to my liking as I love to explore and experiment, and that’s what this was, one big explorative experiment in the world of food. I look forward to July’s box!
My favourite product from this box is the Rhythm 108 Salted Caramel Biscuits; they are divine and I will be trying more of their products in the future. I do highly recommend them!
