“Dive into the darkness with this jet-black spiced rum that’s as bold as its name. Rich, smooth and wickedly intense, it delivers warming spice and subtle sweetness with every sip. Its dark character makes it a striking addition to your home bar and perfect for mixing into bold cocktails or enjoying over ice.”

First Impressions…

When I unboxed the bottle it didn’t give me a premium feel, rather a random squared bottle that has had a sticker slapped on it, so the initial impression wasn’t that appealing. However, I did like the squared edges of the bottle which felt very different to other drinks I’ve had in the past.

The liquid itself was very dark but when poured had a slight translucency to it which gave it a very lovely, almost otherworldly darkness to it which I really enjoyed watching when I rocked the liquid in a glass.

The Tasting…

Neat

I found this to be quite creamy in consistency, full of heat, and hints of caramel. It had a very lovely colour to it too, which I rather liked.

Min found it to taste of toffee with heat, saying that they felt it’s what pirates would drink.

Rum & Coca Cola (full fat)

Weirdly I found this removed all flavour from the drink; it didn’t taste like coke and it didn’t taste like Black Death neat - however it did leave an aniseed after taste.

Min felt much the same and commented on how it removed all heat from the drink, saying “I prefer the heat of neat”

Dark & Stormy

Definitely a dark and stormy looking drink, more murky water with fizz though and didn’t really appeal to my visually.

The strangest of things with this mix was that it made the drink feel really creamy in the mouth with a slight twang to it, however very little flavour from the rum and the ginger beer.

Overall…

This rum is best served neat to really get any flavour from it, mixing the drink with the regular ginger beer or coke doesn’t add anything and kind of negates the positives of all liquids involved.

On a whole the rum is an okay rum but it’s not one I would go out of my way to find and there are much better flavours out of there, and as said before, the bottle looks so cheap.

This won’t be a drink I buy again.
